At the beginning of each school year each student receives a special bulletin outlining Pomelo's "Code of Conduct". All parents and students are required to sign agreeing that this school code will be followed.
|
|
|
It is the conviction of the Pomelo staff that an important part of a child's growth depends on developing self-discipline and understanding that school rules, adopted for the benefit of the majority, are to be recognized and obeyed by all. It is further our belief that this kind of discipline is a forerunner of an adult's responsibility to recognize and that local ordinances and state and federal laws.

Pomelo Students will do their very best on each classroom and homework assignment and return completed homework assignments on time.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will arrive at the beginning of the school day on time and go directly to the yard, and when the bell rings at 8:10 AM, line up in their assigned area.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will be courteous and respectful and follow the directions of all staff members at all times, whether in the classroom or outside on the school grounds. Pomelo Students will eat quietly in the lunch area and will leave the lunch area only after dismissed by a supervisory aide.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will respect school property and the rights and belongings of all students and staff.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will continue to help maintain Pomelo as a SAFE school.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will clean up after themselves in class, in restrooms, on the playground and in the cafeteria, and generally maintain the beauty of the school's appearance.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will follow the classroom and yard rules so that everyone will be able to share and participate. Pomelo Students will always walk on the yard and always keep their hands and feet to themselves.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will maintain personal cleanliness, wear appropriate clothing that is not distracting or causes a disruption to school program and, for safety, wear close-toed shoes with rubber soles. Students are permitted to wear caps on the yard only but must remove them in the halls and classrooms.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will use appropriate language at ALL times.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will bring necessary school materials every day and will leave toys, radios, cameras, video games, or electronic games at home. Prior approval from their teacher is necessary to bring any of these items to school. Skateboards and skates are never allowed in school. Students will leave candy, gum, and canned or bottle beverages at home.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will be permitted to use the school pay phone after school for non-emergency calls. We ask that students please try to have correct change to use the pay phone. Students are always permitted to use the school phone in emergencies.

Pomelo Students will display good manners at all times toward their fellow students, staff members, and parents.
|

STUDENT DISCIPLINE POLICY |
The following behaviors are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Pomelo.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not threaten, attempt, or cause physical injury to another person (such as fighting, hitting, throwing rocks, bullying, or teasing).
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not bring a knife, gun, replica of a weapon, explosive or other dangerous object to school (such as soda cans or bottles)
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not steal or attempt to steal school or private property.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not damage or attempt to damage school or any private property (such as graffiti or marring of classroom furniture).
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not use profanity or vulgarity at any time.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not disrupt school activities or willfully defy the authority of school personnel.
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not jeopardize the safety or health of others (such as spitting or biting).
|
|
|
Pomelo Students will not defame a person or their family for their ethnic or religious background.
|
|

STAFF RESPONSIBILITES
|
|
Pomelo staff will keep parents informed and aware of all classroom assignments, curriculum and student performance. |

Pomelo staff will inform parents of all school functions. |

Pomelo staff will provide a rich and stimulating educational program for each and every student. |
| |
|
|
|
Pomelo staff will enforce all school rules and the Student Behavior Code. All staff at Pomelo will apply the Student Discipline Policy fairly and consistently. |

|
|
Pomelo staff will maintain at all times a safe and healthful environment for all students. |
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will verify their child's absence with a note or telephone call. |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will assist their child to develop good study habits by giving support and assistance (if necessary) with homework. |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will drop off and pick up their child in a safe manner in the designated parking area (other than the school parking lot). |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will drive safely around the school and observe all stop signs and crosswalks. Please drive carefully. |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will review, support and stress the importance of student behavior and responsibilities with their child. |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will stress the importance of performance in school. |
| |
|
|
|
Parents of Pomelo students will encourage students to feel successful and have pride in themselves and Pomelo Drive Elementary School. |
