Dear Third Grade Families,
I hope everyone had a fantastic restful break. I can’t believe how fast this year is flying by. Our
class has been extremely busy learning so many new and exciting things.
I am very proud of your children. Most of them have memorized all of their multiplication facts 0-
5. However, those students who do not have them memorized need to be studying them every night
because this week we moved on to division. The students will be responsible for memorizing their
division facts 0-5 as well.
This month we are reading a chapter book, titled The Promise, as a class. The students are really
enjoying this Christmas book. We have learned many new vocabulary words that we are writing in the
journals we made. The students are also summarizing each chapter to become better at summarizing
stories.
In Religion, we are learning about the meaning of Advent and what the different colors and candles
on the Advent wreath represent. Each student made their own Advent wreath using his or her
handprints as part of the wreath.
Homework has become a huge problem in third grade. To try to put a stop to this immediately, I
have started a homework chart. If your child does all his/her homework the night before he/she gets a
sticker. THIS INCLUDES GETTING HIS/HER READING LOG SIGNED AND HOMEWORK NOTEBOOK SIGNED.
If they do not do their homework, they do not get a sticker. If they are missing three stickers in a
certain period of time, a privilege is taken away. The privileges that could be taken away are field trips,
holiday parties, rallies, or any special event going on at this school. If both you and I work together, we
will be able to put a stop to this homework problem. Please make sure your child is doing ALL his or
her homework every night!
I hope everyone has a great holiday season!
