Where were you? What were you doing? Who was there? Did you get in trouble? How did you finally stop laughing? Share the story of this funny moment. Practice song for the Christmas Program Third Grade Homework Plan Queen of All Saints School Homework is an essential part of an effective, well-planned, instructional program. Third grade homework is meant to provide additional practice and reinforce skills that are being taught in the classroom, as well as allow students to show mastery for skills and curriculum areas. Homework will meaningful reflect the curriculum, be balanced, and advance student learning. It provides for an extension of learning opportunities and gives you a chance to be more involved in your child’s learning. Purpose of homework • Promote communication between home and school • Promote responsibility and organization • Provide independent practice of skills • Provide opportunities for parental involvement in student learning • Extend classroom learning Parent support for homework • Check your child’s homework assignments daily • Provide a consistent time and quiet location for you child to work • Provide materials such as paper, pencil, and other resources as needed • If your child is struggling and needs extra assistance, encourage him/her to call a “study buddy” and please let me know Expectations • Homework assignments will be introduced in class (with specific instructions and clear explanations) so students will be familiar with what is being required. • Homework assignments will be neatly written in pencil and will meet the criteria for the 3 C’s: Complete, Correct, and Comprehensive. Math assignments will show all work. • Since homework is an extension of the curriculum, it will be evaluated, recorded, discussed in class, and returned to the student. Work that does not meet the criteria will be returned to the student, clarified, and expected to be revised. • When a homework assignment is incomplete, students will be expected to finish it in a timely manner. • If a student repeatedly fails to complete and return homework, parents will be contacted for intervention. (i.e.: homework contract, parent conference, ect) My goal is to see your child develop into a responsible and independent learning by extending the learning environment beyond the classroom. Homework is an essential part of growth and helps keep you informed of your child’s progress. Sincerely, Ms. Lindsey Hahn ms.hahn3rd@gmail.com
