Every Friday I will be sending home a newsletter that is specific to our class and current school
happenings. Please make sure to check your child’s important papers folder every Friday. This folder
will also include the weekly sight word list each week. Oct.23, 2009

No School Friday, Nov. 6th and Monday, Nov. 9th.

This week we learned that fairy tales were written to teach us something. Ask your child what did
“The Three Little Pigs” teach us.
In Math, we began our unit on addition. Please help your child study their number recognition. It is
important that every child be able to recognize numbers 1 to 50.
We continue to study Fall, weather, and will begin discussing Thanksgiving and Advent. We are
also learning about Moses and the Ten Commandments.
The phone number to reach me at is 925-685-8700 ext 3200. This will take you directly to my
voicemail so as not to interrupt class. I will check it several times a day.

Birthdays: I am happy to join you in celebrating your child’s birthday. Please make sure to keep
snacks simple and healthy. I ask that you save cakes for your family celebration. Also consider
donating a book to our library to honor your child. A label will be placed in the book permanently
dedicating the book in your child’s honor.

Sight words for this week are: to, of, this, that, her and in. The sight words consist of flash cards and
a writing sheet further into the year. I will also send home mini book activities to reinforce learning of
the sight words.

Uniform reminder:
Girls are to wear shorts under their skirts every day. Girls may also wear navy, white or black tights
only. Boys: tee shirts with QAS logo may only be worn on jean days. The weather is getting colder.
Please make sure to send your child in a jacket each day.

We will be having a Thanksgiving Feast on Friday, November 20th. Parents are invited to come and
eat lunch with their child that day. Our room parents will be contacting you for your contribution to
our feast.

Please make sure to check the class website often. I strive to keep it up to date and will post
additions regularly.

Micaela Collazos-Pollanco was student of the week this week. We enjoyed the pictures she shared
with us all week. During the week of Nov. 16th, we will recognize Kristellyn Erzando as student of
the week.

I have sent home mini books throughout the week for the students to “read” as part of their nightly
reading. This pre-reading is vital for early literacy skills. Please help your child move their finger
under each word as you read together.
  _______________________________________________________________________________________________
Rainy Days: Please have your child come straight to the classroom on rainy days. Drop them off in
front of the porch and they can then walk themselves to the classroom.

Please email or make me a CD of any photos you have taken during the year so that I can post them
on the website.

We are running low on crackers. We need donations of graham and goldfish crackers. If you are able,
please send some in soon. We have enough Ritz Crackers to get us through about two weeks. We
also have plenty of juice.

We will be having many activities during the next few weeks as the holidays approach to teach our
children about the Corporal Works of Mercy and serving others. Please watch for fliers in the
Wednesday envelopes.

During the cold and flu season, please remind your child to wash their hands regularly. Do not send
your child to school if they are ill or have a bad cough.

Homework: Please check your child’s homework daily. Names should be written neatly on all work. I
look at the homework daily to check that students understand the material presented in class.
Encourage your student to do their best work.

Does anyone have a very small artificial Christmas tree that they could lend or donate to the class? It
would need to be tabletop size. I also need some small ornaments to place on it. The one we have is
very old and has seen many Christmases.

Have a Great 4-Day Weekend!
