Homework

1st Grade Homework Policy

Homework is sent home daily and is due the following school day. Please
check your child's homework folder for each night's homework. Homework must
be returned in the homework folder.

If homework is not completed and returned as stated above, a note requiring
a parent’s signature will be sent home. Students who make a habit of not
turning in their homework will have to complete the homework during recess
and/or lunch.
** If a student forgets their homework at school, Kid’s Klub or Grandma’s
house, please send me a note letting me know the situation. They can
complete the work the next night. Don’t make a special effort to get the
work and don’t make a special trip to school to drop off their homework
folder.

Ongoing Homework:
**************************************************************
1. Guided Reading Homework: Please check your child's backpack for
the "Zippy". Listen to them read the story in their Zippy and sign their
reading log. If there is a Guided Reading Worksheet in the Zippy, please
remind your child to complete the activity.
It is expected that you will read with your child and listen to your child
read.

2. Spelling: Please have your child write the spelling words 2 times on the
enclosed spelling worksheet. Give your child "mini" spelling tests to help
them study their words.

3. Mathematics: Students will complete their math worksheet(s). Please help
them practice counting to 100 by 2's, 5's, and 10's.
Other Math Skills to Work on at Home:
**Make a practice of asking them to tell you the time - use both digital and
analog clocks (clocks with a minute and hour hand).
**Practice identifying coins. Count the pennies by one, the nickels by 5,
the dimes by 10. Then combine the coins and have them practice counting.
One dime plus one nickel plus one penny = 10+5+1.

4. Poetry: Practice reciting the weekly poem.

5. Sight Words: Practice reading your weekly Sight Words

6. Students will complete any unfinished work that has been sent home.

How Can You Help?
*If your child is having difficulty with a page of homework, please let me
know by writing a short note on the homework.
*Give your child the responsibility of putting their completed homework and
folder in their backpack.
