| Congratulations!! Your child is on their way to the 2nd grade. The first
grade students have grown to be great readers this year. It is very
important that they practice these reading skills over the summer. Summer
reading will bridge the end of one school year with the beginning of the
next. Here are some tips to get your child reading:
*Keep books in the car for them to read on long trips.
*Get them their own library card.
*Help them select books on topics they find interesting and are at their
level.
*Have a variety of reading material: books on tape, magazines
*Let them see you read!
*Read together.
*Help them choose books from the suggested reading list and check them out
from your local library.
