Hello Incoming 4th Graders and Parents, I am Ms. Wehrlie and I will be your child’s fourth grade teacher. Here are a few suggestions for the summer which will help your student transition into fourth grade in August. READ! READ! READ! READ! READ!! Studies have shown that the students who read on a regular basis develop a greater vocabulary, and deepen their love of reading!! KNOW THOSE MATH FACTS!! Incoming fourth graders are expected to be proficient in their knowledge and application of addition and subtraction (carry over and borrow), and MULTIPLICATION TABLES. We will begin with a BRIEF review of multiplication. It is NECESSARY that your child memorize the tables (0-10) BY THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. This will make the continuation of more complex multiplication processes easier. Cursive Writing Cursive writing is expected of all fourth graders. If your child has difficulty with this skill please work on this over the summer. You may find many helpful cursive booklets at stores such as “Wal- Mart,” or “Target,” etc. Practice, Practice Practice! VISIT A MISSION OR HISTORICAL SITE IN CALIFORNIA!! Fourth grade is the year of learning more about our state. It would be fun to take a trip to one of the California Missions and or any historical site. Take pictures! Pick up brochures! Keep a journal of your findings! You never know what your child may want to use in future reports. AND FINALLY...HAVE FUN and PLAY!!!! I look forward to meeting you all in August. Have a Safe Summer!! Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. Many Blessings, Ms. Wehrlie msw4@sbcglobal.net http://TeacherWeb.com/CA/QueenofAllSaintsSchool/MsWehrlie/
