Dana Middle school, in partnership with LMU’s Center for Math and Science Teaching (CMAST), will be using the following grading protocol this year. In order to assess, track, and analyze current student mastery towards the CA State Standards / Learning Targets for Pre-Algebra, student grades will be 100% assessment-based. Student levels of mastery towards state standards / Learning Targets will always reflect their most current levels; therefore students will have multiple opportunities during the semester to replace and improve their grades. Students will be able to track their levels of mastery (1-5) using their individual learning target logs (located in their Pre-Algebra notebook) as well as their current, overall grade (via PowerSchool). All assessments will stay in the classroom in each student’s assessment portfolio/folder.
