Procedures

ID Cards: ID cards are to be carried with you at Redwood in your wallet or 
binder. If you lose your card, the replacement cost is $5.

Citizenship Points: To keep your “Y” status you must make up your points 
within one week.  By keeping your “Y” status all year you will be eligible 
for the year-end activities to the beach and Knot’s Berry Farm for 8th 
graders who maintain “YY”.  Keep your pink copies of your point slips so that 
you have a record.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Wessels in the 
office. 

Detention: Students may make up five points by attending detention. Detention 
is held Tuesday 3:20 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. in Room 7, Wednesday 7:50 a.m. – 8:50 
a.m. in Room 40, and Thursday 7:50 a.m. - 8:50 a.m. in Room 43. 
You should arrive on time and prepared with enough schoolwork for one hour.

Leaving Early: If you are planning to leave during the day for a doctor’s 
appointment or other reasons, you must come to the office and check out.  The 
easiest way to leave during the day is to bring a note from your parent 
explaining the time and the reason you are leaving.

Forgotten Items: If you left something at home, check in the office during 
passing period to see if your parent dropped it off.  Remember that we cannot 
interrupt the classrooms for forgotten items.

Cell Phones: Students must not use cell phones during the hours of 9: 00 
a.m. – 3:10 p.m.  Cell phones are to be kept in your lockers.  Students who 
violate this rule will lose 5 points for the first offense, and receive a 
Saturday Work Study for the second offense.  Additionally, a parent will need 
to pick up the phone from the office.

Textbooks: All hardbound textbooks, with the exception of 8th grade Spanish 
and French, should be kept at home.  

Regarding Lockers: You must use only the locker that was assigned to you.  If 
you are found using the wrong locker your materials will be removed.  You 
will then need to pick up your things in the office. 

Before School Procedures: No students will be permitted upstairs before 8:50 
a.m. 

Lunch Time Equipment Room: At lunchtime, starting at 12:55 p.m., students may 
check out basketballs, footballs, Frisbees, and soccer balls at the Boy’s 
Physical Education door.  You must leave your Redwood ID card The student who 
checked it out must check in all equipment by 1:20 p.m.

Procedure for Picking Up Items Brought From Home: If you come to school and 
you have forgotten something at home, it is your responsibility to check in 
the office to see if it has been delivered.
 
Lost and Found: All binders, notebooks, personal reading books, lunches, and 
other materials brought to school should be labeled with your name.  Lost 
items are often found and turned in.  Items of clothing are collected in the 
hallway near the teachers’ patio.  Personal items such as eyeglasses, purses, 
wallets, and jewelry are kept in the office and may be claimed there.  Books 
and binders are kept in the library.

Lunch Procedures: The following guidelines are to be observed by all students 
during lunchtime.  
(1) Students who wish to buy lunch or snacks are to enter the cafeteria 
through the back door on the west side.  Students are not to go up on the 
stage while waiting in line. 
(2) All food must be eaten in the patio area.  After completing lunch, 
students may go to the field or physical education area avoiding areas where 
activities are already in progress.  
(3) Students may not go upstairs, under the office building, or under either 
end of the classroom building during lunchtime.  
(4) The bathrooms in the physical education area are to be used during 
lunchtime.
(5) Food, candy, and drinks (other than water) are not allowed out of the 
lunch area. Students not following this rule will risk getting a warning or 
being assigned trash pick-up duty to help us keep our campus clean. Also, you 
may not leave your belongings unattended during lunchtime.  If they are 
confiscated you will need to pick them up in the office.

Bicycle Riders: Students who ride bicycles to and from school must wear 
protective helmets.  This law is enforced and you may be ticketed if you do 
not wear your helmet. Walk, do not ride, your bike in the parking lot or on 
campus.

Skateboards: Please remember that you may never ride your skateboard while on 
campus or while in the parking lot.  Students riding their skateboards on 
campus will have them confiscated and will be assigned detention or Saturday 
Work Study.  

Regarding Backpacks: Backpacks must be kept in lockers during school hours.  
Students who leave their backpacks or notebooks unattended will receive a 
detention.
