Second Grade Homework

Homework in second grade is for the purposes of preparation, practice, and extension of concepts 
learned in class. The expectation is that all second graders complete any and all assignments 
independently according to the homework timeline, as detailed below. Adjustments to the work load 
coming home is left up to the parents’ discretion. If your student is struggling to complete their 
homework and additional classwork is coming home, please let your student’s teacher know so that 
accommodations can be made.

Homework Timeline:

Reading: 15 minutes (reading log, fluency readers, independent practice, reading classwork, studying 
for tests, etc.)

Writing: 10 minutes (writing journal, reports, projects, etc.)

Math: 5 minutes (math facts, graphs, math classwork, bonus packets, etc.)
