Welcome to Science Lab!

I am looking forward to a great school year.  Below are the guidelines for our science class.  Please contact me with any questions.

  1. Lab Format: Teamwork Groups (all roles will be rotated weekly)
    1. Task Manager – Keeps everyone on task.  Makes sure everyone understands what to do.  Makes sure everyone understands an answer before moving on.
    2. Resource Manager – Gets supplies for your team.  Asks the teacher any team questions.  Gets any extra information from the teacher.
    3. Maintenance Manager –Cleans up supplies and table area after the lab.  Makes sure everything is put away in its proper place.
    4. Reporter/Recorder – Takes attendance.  Shares/reports team data with the class.  Makes sure the team agrees about how to show their work.
  2. Student Safety Contract:  Parents and students must read, sign and return attached contract.
  3. Grading and Homework Policy
    1. Grading

                                       i.    Tests – 20%

                                      ii.    Homework- 20% Home work is due the day after it is assigned, but accepted up to 1 week from the date assigned unless otherwise instructed.  Beyond 1 week homework will not be accepted.

                                     iii.    Special Projects – 20 %

                                     iv.    Lab Notebook – 20 %

                                      v.    Class Conduct & Participation – 20 %

  1. Lab Conduct Rules & Consequences
    1. Rules

                                       i.    Safety First – All students must be kept safe in lab. Follow ALL safety rules.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

                                      ii.    Mutual Respect – everyone and everything in the classroom is treated with respect. 

                                     iii.    Contribute to the Learning Environment – all students have the right to learn in a non-disruptive environment.

    1. Consequences

                                       i.    Yellow Card (minor infraction of the rules) – tardy, talking, unprepared for class, getting out of seat, not wearing goggles, etc.  Action Plan may be filled out by the student.

                                      ii.    Red Card – extreme safety hazard, insubordination or 3 yellow cards in one class period. Consequences will be detention and a call to parents.  Action Plan will be filled out by the student.  Yellow cards and Red cards reduce class participation grade.
