I hold a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an Early Childhood Studies option from
California State University Hayward. In May 2003, I earned my CLAD Multiple
Subject Teaching Credential from St. Mary’s College in Moraga. Currently, I
am two classes away from receiving Supplemental Authorizations in Math and
Science, and would like to continue my education and earn a Masters in
Science.
As a high school graduate from Carondelet, I attended U.C. Berkeley, where I
overcame my fear of libraries by working at Moffitt Undergraduate Library. I
left the University after two years – unable to decide on a major, and began
working full time for a small, scientific instrument company in Walnut
Creek, manufacturing chemical detectors for gas chromatography. I’ve been
with the company for twenty plus years, returning each summer to complete
the corporation’s annual reports and taxes, and to stay current with the
scientific community. It was not until my thirties, and the birth of my son
and death of my mother, that I realized I wanted to teach. Though I was good
at my job, I felt I could really excel at teaching.
Lastly, if you subscribe to the left brain-right brain theory, I would be a
left brainer – logical and pattern-oriented. Science and math have always
been easy, fun subjects for me. I learn languages quickly, and speak
several – with varying degrees of fluency. I also read music, and play the
piano, guitar and drums.
