Week 11
*November 11-13...Parent-Teacher Conferences/Noon Dismissal
*November 20...6th Grade Mass
*November 23-27...No School/Thanksgiving Holiday
Happy November. Where did the time go? Before we know it, Christmas and the
New Year will be upon us. Believe it, or not, we have completed our first
quarter and are already into the 2nd week of the 2nd quarter.
Congratulations to the SJA 6th Grade Football team for finishing in 3rd place
in Friday's competition.
Thank you to all who helped with our Dia De Los Muertos Celebration,
especially Mrs. Dalton and Mrs. MacKinnon who helped organize everything and
Mrs. York and Ms. Fernandez, who gave an awesome presentation on the history
of the celebration.
Ditto to all who helped with our class booths and assisted in making the
Halloween Carnival a huge success this year. It was a nice way to end the 1st
quarter.
We will be organizing an outreach project for November. See attachment/flyer
on the Newsflash page for more information.
Not sure if everyone knew, but we had a new addition to our 6th grade class a
couple weeks ago. A BIG WELCOME to Caitlin Ryder and her family.
Also, congratulations to Nicholas Miller for winning the End of the Quarter,
"Caught Being Good" raffle and receiving a lunch with Mrs. Dunn. Amanda Wright
was also the weekly winner and received a certificate for yogurt!
REMINDERS
Noon dismissal November 11-13. We will see you for your conferences at
the time(s) you scheduled. We will be discussing your child's progress based
upon report card grades (report cards were given to your child on Friday)and
any other observations we have made during this 1st quarter. You are welcome
to bring your child if you like.
Check the assignment/homework page for daily assignments and
homework for the week. We do our best to inform you when changes to this
schedule are made via a newsflash, but sometimes do not. We do however
review the entire homework page with your child at the end of each day and
instruct them to make the changes on the hard copy that they should have
in their red homework folder.
Online Textbooks: Many of you have tried to register or to access the
online textbooks through Pearson/Prentice Hall may have had
difficulty. There was a small problem that has been brought to our
attention. If you signed on to receive the Science textbook first,
the system will not recognize the log in/password you receive for Social
Studies or Language Arts. The representative from Pearson Publishing said
the students must initially sign on to either the Social Studies or
Language Arts titles prior to Science. It has something to do with the
Prentice Hall texts having "priority" over the Pearson texts. We were not
informed of this problem and apologize for any confusion or difficulty this
may have caused you. Hopefully the order of registering will eliminate the
problem.
The flu and illness continue to be a problem, not only at SJA, but in other
schools as well. We ask that if your child is sick, or is feeling ill,
please keep them home. Within the last 2 weeks, our class alone has averaged
2-3 students out on a daily basis. Doctors are highly recommending that you
get your children vaccinated this flu season, since young children and teens
are the hardest hit by the H1N1. We pray for the intercessions of St Blase to
keep us healthy.
Have a great week.
