How will we know what to do for First Communion?

We spend many months preparing for First Communion. We receive a special book
to help us and we spend time with our parents and our teachers in order to
prepare. We also practice for a week at the church to get ready for the
exciting day.

Do we do community service in 2nd grade?

Yes, 2nd graders do 4 hours of community service. At Back to School Night,
parents will receive a packet from your teachers. In it, there will be a page
listing your options to complete this project. This involves a presentation
to the class in May. Please do not wait until May to complete this!

Can I celebrate my birthday in class?

YES!!! We celebrate all Busy Bee birthdays!! If your birthday falls during the
summer, you may choose to celebrate your "Un-birthday!" That is, your half
birthday. You just need to let Mrs. E or Mrs. R know what day you would like
to do that and we will plan it!

Can parents help out in the classroom?

Yes, parents may help out in many ways in 2nd grade!
We need helpers to stuff Friday folders every Friday, correct homework at home
in the evenings, do various cutting/pasting projects at home, filing for
teachers, working in centers in the morning, working at math jobs during math
during the week, reading to the class as a "Guest Reader" along with the
various other "holiday" type help needed. Please let your teachers know at
Back to School night how you would like to help.

How does the "Bee-havior" chart work??

The students receive AT LEAST one verbal warning that they are not following a
classroom rule. On the second violation, their card gets flipped from green
to yellow. This is a warning. On the third violation, their card gets
flipped to red. At this time, they receive a demerit and a pink slip goes
home. The pink slip includes questions to answer regarding the demerit. This
is an opportunity for parents to have a teachable moment with their students.
You will have a chance to discuss what happened and how they can change their
actions to avoid the demerit in the future. There is also a #2 red card.
This would only happen in the event that a child has already received a red
card during the week. This would be the second demerit and would warrant a
meeting with the parents.
