                                  Homework Policy

Why do I assign homework?

I believe homework is important because it is a valuable tool in helping
students make the most of their experience in school. Homework helps
reinforce what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming
lessons, teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study
habits.

When will homework be assigned?

Homework will be mostly assigned Monday-Thursday nights with very few “light”
homework assignments on weekends. Assignments should take approximately 45-
60 minutes, not including studying for tests. Students also should be
reading for 15 minutes/night.

What are your child’s responsibilities?

I expect students to do their best job on each homework assignment. I expect
homework to be neat, not sloppy. All daily written work should be done in
pencil. I expect all homework to be completely finished by class time the
following day.

Each homework assignment will be worth points towards the final grade.
However, points will be deducted from the homework grade if an assignment is:
incomplete, sloppy, missing name/#/date, has incomplete sentences, careless
errors (punctuation, repeated spelling errors).

When a student comes into class without their homework they receive a zero
for that assignment, until turned in, which will then earn no more than 50%.
I try to reinforce 50% is better than a zero.

What are a parent’s responsibilities?

Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for the
children. Therefore, I ask that you make homework a top priority at home,
provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set aside a
time everyday when homework should be done, provide praise and support,
help your child get to the library when necessary, not allow your child to
avoid homework, and contact me if you notice a problem.
