Dear Parents,
My name is Ms. Elizabeth Stember, and I will be your child’s 5th grade
teacher this year. This year will be my fourth wonderful year at St. Mary
School!. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about
myself-both personally and professionally.
I received my B.A. in History from Loyola University, New Orleans. My
enthusiasm for traveling began in junior year of college when I spent a year
abroad in Seville, Spain. Upon graduating, I ventured farther east to
Washington DC, where I gained some experience in a presidential campaign
while
working in the White House. I finally returned to California and attended
University
of Phoenix to obtain my Credential and Masters in Elementary Education.
While in Grad school, I taught 6th grade for three months at a nearby public
school, I continued to be an aide her at St. Mary’s and I substituted in
Catholic Schools within the Sacramento Diocese and in the San Juan Unified
School District. I have also taught and continue to teach summer school at
St. Mary for the past two years.
I love teaching. I am from a large family of teachers and have always had a
gift with relating to children. I foster a nurturing environment where my
students are encouraged to try their best while learning to be independent
open-minded thinkers. The 5th grade year is one of great growth and I will
strive to prepare my students to enter into middle school with the
necessary tools to be successful.
Parents are the most important people in a child’s life, and we need to work
together for the benefit of your child. This is a very challenging year for
your students. I need you to support my academic, homework, and discipline
efforts here at school. In return, I will keep you informed about all
aspects of your child’s experiences at school. With school and home working
together, I know that each and every student can have his or her most
successful year yet.
