Dear 2009-2010 5th Grade Students and Families,
I can't believe Christmas is almost here.
Tuesday - Jeans for Jesus
Thursday - Mass dress, bring final Advent Angel gift
Friday - minimum day
The students were given an assignment on December 9th. It is a Biography
Report. I have listed the requirements below, in case anyone leaves the
paperwork at school over the Christmas Break.
5th Grade Biography Book Report Guidelines
Students will read a biography, which must be a book of at least 100 pages.
(Students may ask for my approval if the book is close to 100 pages.)
Students may choose any well-known person to read about. I would appreciate
typed reports, but it is not mandatory. If the report is hand-written, it
must be in pen and in cursive. Any reasonable size font may be used. Please
make sure it’s not too crazy, or I will have a hard time reading it.
Book Report Guidelines
A. Cover page with the title of the book, student name and due date
B. List the following important facts
1. Title of the book
2. Author
3. Publisher
4. Date published
5. Number of pages
6. 5 facts about the person (including date of birth)
7. 5 new words that you learned while reading this book and their
definitions
C. Answer the following questions in well-written paragraphs, with at
least 5 sentences per paragraph.
1. Who was the book about and what was important about this person? You
may include information such as childhood experiences, family information,
important contributions to society, etc.
2. What personality traits and characteristics did this person have that
made him or her so successful and/or important?
3. What are your reactions to this person? What do you admire most
about this person? Were you disappointed by anything that you read? Would
you like to meet this person if you could?
Creative Display Guidelines
Students will showcase their artistic abilities in a display for Open House.
The display may be any one of the following projects. All displays must
either fit on the students’ desktops or sit on their chairs. This project is
meant to be fun for the students. Please do not spend too much time or money
on this project.
Bust: Students may create a bust of their important person. The bust should
include some type of object, such as a hat, that would help others identify
the important person.
Life-size “dummy”: Students may create a dummy that can sit on a school
chair. It must be dressed in a way that shows the person’s identity.
Poster: Students can illustrate the person’s life through the use of
artwork, whether hand drawn images or computer generated, on a small poster
to fit on the desktop.
Due Dates: Reports and displays may be brought to class the week of January
25, 2010, and are due no later than January 28, 2010.
Late Work: Grades will be reduced by 10% for every day past January 28, 2010.
