FOR NEW SIXTH GRADERS: Where in time? This is super for students coming into
sixth grade. They should use this site to get an overview of the major time
periods in western civilization.

INFORMATION LITERACY: Tips for parenting in the Information Age. Jamie
McKenzie stresses that parents can help raise children who will be able to

RAISING TEENS: "My teen's driving me crazy"...Although I don't recommend
this site for Middle School students to read on their own, I do think
it has a lot of unique, easily retrieved and indexed information for PARENTS
of Middle Schoolers. Use these pages published in 1997 by the American
Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to learn more about puberty. This
hotlist was not created to replace professional or medical assistance.
Consult a professional if a problem arises with your family or child. Again,
if there is a mental-health, academic, medical, or family crisis please seek
immediate professional help at school or in your community.

challenges and answer sheets for middle schoolers. You can use
the challenges online by scanning the Challenge Index or Math
Index for intriguing topics, or download them in batches in PDF
format for printing and offline use. Parents will

teaching experience and what I learned from my Masters in Information and
Library Science program.

Great Pleasure Reading BY MRS. SIMS: Check out these selections. It's really
quite simple...Research shows that when students read more they get better
grades. Allow your child to self-select books. In addition to titles
available in the Lewis Library and in the
classrooms, utilize Children's and Young Adult sections at
the Public Libraries. The Young Readers section at book stores is great for
6th & 7th graders but 8th graders will also enjoy books the Young Adult
section. Read, read, read. Don't forget magazines, newspapers, and Internet
resources. Reading is Reading.
