Then...in a sentence or two each, describe what issue/event was most interesting or surprising to 
you...AND...what issue/development/event was, in your opinion, the most  important/significant to 
the era.  10+ extra credit points!  Due Thurs 1/14.

YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES for this week’s Chapter 21 & 23 Homework:  write summaries OR answer 
the questions I have selected for you.  CHOICES BELOW:

IF YOU PREFER TO WRITE THE SUMMARIES, please do the following - 

"CHOICE ONE":  Read Chapter 21, an informative section about the early African American civil rights 
era.   Pages 699-725.  Write a one-page (full page) reflection (narrative or bullet point), in which you 
note the important ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, and POLITICAL events/issues of the era.  Then...in a 
sentence or two each, describe what issue/event was most interesting or surprising to 
you...AND...what issue/development/event was, in your opinion, the most  important/significant to 
the Civil Rights movement....AND...Read Chapter 23, an interesting chapter about various Movements 
in Post War America.  Pages 767-787.  Write a one-page (full page) reflection (narrative or bullet 
point), in which you note the important ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, and POLITICAL events/issues of the era. 
Then...in a sentence or two each, describe what issue/event was most interesting or surprising to 
you...AND...what issue/development/event was, in your opinion, the most  important/significant 
Chapter 23 topic.

Mon 12/7:  Catch up on portfolio assignments, work on your Decades research.

Tues 12/8:  Write a 1 page summary about Japanese Relocation Camps in America (a 
summary...including the beginnings, life in the camps, end of war experiences, etc.).  Add the 
pros/cons of this action (think about the government's perspective), and add your opinion of 
Executive Order 9066 and the creation of the camps.  Your textbook has some information (pp594-
595 - READ THESE PAGES!).  In addition, there are several good sites on-line.  Among them are the 
Smithsonian site: http://americanhistory.si.edu/perfectunion/experience/index.html.

Thurs 12/10:  Read 562-568 (17.1).  Do: #2,3 p568.

     IDEAS FOR "HOMEWORK CHOICE":

*Answer the assigned question(s).

*Write a "bullet point" summary of the main points of the reading
  (approximately 3/4 page for each text section of reading).

*Draw 3 or more pictures, with descriptive paragraphs, which detail
  information in the reading (per section of reading)

*Create a "diary entry", "letter", or "newspaper article" that includes
  important information from the reading (write as if you are living
  in the era, or have witnessed the event, etc.).

*Compose a poem or song about the reading.

*Make a crossword puzzle using the vocabulary in each section
  of reading (include the "clues").
