This is my "Home Page".
(scroll down for extra credit)
You can navigate around this site by clicking the buttons on the left side.
"Homework" takes you to the daily posting of homework assignments. These postings will stay here for the entire semester.
"Handouts" is for the Pre-Calc students and it has the solutions to the homework assignments. These will only stay up while we are in the current chapter.
"Grades" will take you to the grade viewing page, and all you have to do is put in your six-digit ID number, your last name, and choose which class you are in. You will see your overall grade, your category grades (tests & quizzes, homework, etc), and the score you got on each assignment so far. You can also see attendance information.
On this page you will also occasionally find an extra-credit assignment, such as the one below.
The picture you see below was designed as a "Proof Without Words" to prove the Law of Cosines. Your job is to supply the words for this proof. In other words, how does this image prove the law of cosines? You'll need to recall some theorems from Geometry, and use some Algebra to explain the "2a cos(C)-b" part of the first equation, as well as why it's an equation in the first place. Above all, ORGANIZE your thoughts and state them clearly. Remember: it's a proof!
This Extra Credit should be written out and turned in, rather than emailed, and you should include this picture, or a copy of it with your work. For your convenience I have placed this graphic on the "Handouts" page so you can download and print it if you want, although you are more than welcome to draw your own with a compass and straightedge.
Because of the challenging nature of this Extra-Credit problem, you will earn up to 7 points added to your lowest test score for an excellent explanation of this proof.
