Comparative Econ Project

THE COMPARATIVE ECONOMIC PROJECT

You and your partner are to gather a few economic indicators (statistical
information that point to the health of an economy) and create a powerpoint
presentation comparing and contrasting the two countries. You will be
comparing the economic health of any two nations. Please focus on just a few
indicators and make your presentation both education and visual. In the end,
you are to make a judgment statement as to which economy is healthier? Please
site all sources in a brief bibliography at the end of your presentation.
Each person is also to write a ¾ page reflection paper. The reflection Paper
should explain what you learned from this project.

WHAT ARE ECONOMIC INDICATORS?
Economic indicators indicate the direction an economy is going. Some
indicators are strictly economic (GDP, per capita income, net exports, etc.),
others demonstrate different aspects of society that are affected by the
economy (health care, infant-mortality rate, population rate, education, the
environment).

WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE COMPARE AND CONTRAST PAPER?
Your reflection paper should be ¾-1 page long. It should be typed, and
should explain what you learned from this project. It should be easy to read
and free of errors.

WHAT WEBSITES SHOULD I USE?
Listed below are a few web sites that will be helpful.

CIA Website - http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html
This is a good website to find statistical information about different
countries. There is also good narrative information that may be helpful in
your comparison.

UNICEF Website - http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/index.html
This is a good site has easily accessible social/economic indicators and good
narrative information.

U.N. Cyberschoolbus -
http://cyberschoolbus.un.org/infonation3/menu/advanced.asp
This is an interesting site for students. It produces graphs of statistical
information on different countries.

U.N. Cyberschoolbus: Country at a glance -
http://cyberschoolbus.un.org/infonation/index.asp
This will let you look at information about one country at a time.
