Parent/Teacher Association
The Centerville Elementary Parent/Teacher Association is an organization open
to all parents. Every parent is encouraged to join and support the school and
its functions. A close feeling of partnership prevails between the school and
the families it serves, which relates directly to the enthusiasm and
accomplishments of the Centerville children. The Parent/Teacher Association,
with its many activities, is an integral part of the total school program.
Parent Visitation
Parents are encouraged to stay involved with their childs education. Please
remember, all visitors must report to the office before being allowed on
campus. Centerville School reserves the right for approval and denial of all
visitors.
Parties at School
There are approximately three parties at school each year. They are sponsored
by PTA. If you would like to assist with these room parties, please contact
your childs teacher. No homemade goods are allowed due to potential food
allergies. Please do not send balloons, cupcakes or other items to celebrate
your childs birthday. If such items are sent they will be left in the office
for a parent or guardian to pick up. We appreciate your compliance.
Telephone Use
Students are allowed to use the telephone in their classrooms only in the
event the teacher directs them to do so. Phone calls from parents will not be
put through to students.
Items Not Appropriate at School
A student shall not bring personal property to school without specific
permission from the teacher or principal. The use of electronic devices (i.e.
cell phones, music players, Gameboys, etc.) is considered disruptive to the
educational process. Cell phones may be brought to school, but must be turned
off from the time they arrive until the end of the school day. Any cell phone
seen during the school day will be taken and parents will be notified. The
following items and/or practices are prohibited:
∗ Possession of any simulated weapons and masks ∗ Gum chewing ∗ Skateboards ∗
Laser pens ∗ Permanent markers and white-out/correction fluid pens
Centerville School is not responsible for any item lost or stolen.
Grading Policy
At the end of each trimester (approximately 12 weeks of school) a report card
is issued to students. The report card will be given for the first time at the
parent/student/ teacher conference in the fall.
Homework Policy
Homework is an integral part of the school curriculum. It is a teacher planned
learning activity and related to class work. Homework will be used to
reinforce learned skills rather than to teach new skills. The amount of
homework and level of difficulty will be matched to the student's needs,
interests and abilities. It is the responsibility of the family to provide a
time and place for the student to complete the homework and return with it to
school as assigned. Incomplete homework will be resolved between the teacher
and student. The family will be involved as needed.
Sports Eligibility
In addition to good behavior, students must meet academic requirements to
participate in sports. All students must be making satisfactory progress
toward grade level standards. If a student fails to complete and/or make up
any assignments by noon on the day of a game he or she will not participate.
*Students who are ineligible to play do not attend games. Classroom teachers
determine eligibility on a weekly basis. Student eligibility includes no
unexcused absences from practice. Students will not play in a game during the
week of an unexcused absence from practice. A suspension will result in the
loss of participation for four weeks. Students not returning their uniform at
the end of the sport season will not be allowed to participate on any sports
team until the uniform is returned or paid for.
