Homework Policy
Jefferson Elementary School regards homework as an integral part of the instructional program.
Homework is an extension of the regular classroom instructional program and will cover material
previously introduced in class. Students are expected to do their homework. We believe homework
must be evaluated promptly and returned to the student. Homework will not be used as
punishment, it should promote the learning process.
For homework to be a successful learning activity, parents should provide a quiet study area,
establish a specific time each day for homework, supervise homework making sure enough time is
allowed, and contact the teacher regarding concerns about homework assignments.
Homework/Make-Up Work
l. General
a. Homework is defined as planned learning assignments, which will require time and effort
outside of a student's regular school hours, with emphasis on reading. As such, homework
reinforces classroom learning and expands on a student's school experiences.
b. Homework assignments are to be specific and related to specific classroom learning. The needs
and abilities of the student are to be important considerations in planning assignments.
c. The principal and teachers at the school site are responsible for the coordination of homework
assignments and implementation of district regulations on homework.
d. A plan to monitor student homework assignments by parents shall be established by the principal
and teachers at the school site. We ask that parents check the assignment(s) and sign them before
they are returned to school.

materials.
5. Budget time wisely and maintain a schedule of study time.
