How much homework should students expect to have in Pre-Algebra?

Homework is typically assigned 3 to 5 times per week. Homework is usually
started in class, and takes 30 minutes or less to finish at home.

What happens when an assignment is late?

Even if the assignment is not finished on time, it must be completed and
turned in. Late work is worth 1/2 credit. Get in the habit of turning all
work in on time.

What do we do if our family is going out of town for a few days?

If you let me know a few days in advance, I can put together a packet of
work so you don't fall behind in class. It is hard to catch up after the
fact if you are gone for a week or more, so a prearranged "vacation plan" is
the best option.

How can I bring up my grade?

These suggestions should help:
1. Complete all homework on time. Review any missed problems to increase
your understanding.
2. Study the sections covered on the quiz on the day before the quiz so it
is fresh in your mind.
3. Check the link to the HOLT website for section quizzes.
4. Review vocabulary, notebook notes, quizzes, and Chapter Review in the
textbook and internet (HOLT website) to prepare for the Chapter Tests.
5. Extra Credit can help, but is limited to 3 per chapter.

What should I study to earn higher scores on quizzes and tests?

To prepare for quizzes:
1. Review the sections to be included in the quiz the night before by
reading through the textbook discussion and examples. Sections on the
quiz are listed on my website under the homework link.
2. On the textbook website, review the sections to be included on the quiz.

To prepare for tests:
1. Review the chapter by working through some of the odd numbered
questions in the Chapter Review at the end of the Chapter. Check your
answers in the "Selected Answers" section in the back of the book.
2. On the textbook website, take the practice chapter test. If a question
is missed, the test taker is directed to the appropriate section for help.

Where can I get extra help, and when?

I am available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 3:30
in Room 132. I am sometimes available on Tuesdays as well. My 6th period
is out at 2:40, so I am not available until then on Monday-Thursday.

I was absent. Is my homework considered late?

If you have an excused absence, you have as many days to turn in your work
for full credit as you were absent. For example, if you were absent on
Wednesday (one day) the homework that was due on Wednesday is due on
Thursday (one day later), and and the homework due on Thursday will be due
on Friday since you were not in class on Wednesday to get the homework
assignment due on Thursday. The homework due on Friday will be due on
Friday, though, so you'll have to double up to get caught up. A tip: check
the website for the homework assignment and try to get it done while you're
out. Use the textbook as a reference to help you to understand the new
material. You can copy notes from a classmate when you return, or take your
own notes from the textbook. Remember, you are still responsible for
learning the material even if you were absent on the day it was taught.
