About The Teacher

The 2008-2009 school year will be my 6th year teaching at Santa Barbara
Junior High School. I truly enjoy working with students at our
beautiful and historic school. I have taught math and science to both
elementary and junior high school students. I believe math knowledge and
skills are essential for success.

My background is in Mechanical Engineering. I earned my BSME from
University of California at Santa Barbara. I worked as a consulting
engineer before switching careers 14 years ago in order to become more
involved with my children's education. I have two sons. One is a
high school senior and the other is a college student. I also have two
stepsons who are grown and out on their own. One lives in Santa Barbara and
the other one lives in Iowa. I have lived in Santa Barbara for 26 years, and
my husband was born and raised in Santa Barbara.

If you have any questions or concerns about the class, please contact me by
phone or e-mail. I tend to check e-mail a few times a day, and phone
messages only about once a week (or less), so the e-mail method of contact
is preferred.

If you would like to know more about what's happening in Pre-Algebra, just
check the 'Class News' link for your child's class: Pre-Algebra 1-2 GATE,
Pre-Algebra 1-2, or Pre-Algebra 1. It is never too late to get involved in
your child's education, and they are never too old for you to stop being
involved!

Mission For The Class

My goal is to create a classroom environment that will help students
develop an increasing knowledge and mastery of math. We will explore
various operations with numbers, graphing, variables, decimals, fractions
and percents. We will then move on to work with proportional reasoning,
geometric concepts, inequalities, and more. The curriculum of this course
has been specifically designed to be in alignment with the state of
California’s mathematics content standards for California public schools.
You can view the standards by following the 'Helpful Links' icon to
the 'Standards' link.
