Dear Parents and Guardians,

FYI-Quarter grades and Benchmark grades were passed out today. Students did very well on the Benchmark. I am very proud of all of the
classes' results. Please ask you child for his or her report. Please sign and have your child return the report tomorrow. I will pass it back after I
check all signatures. If you have any questions please let me know.

We have a Chapter 2 Test Thursday also. Please check out the Chapter 2 Study Guide to prepare for the test. Remember to have your child
practice the vocabulary. This was a common area missed by students on the last Exam.

Have a good day,

Marisa Parker

This month proves to be fun and challenging. We have finished our first Chapter 1 Test and after the retakes almost everyone has passed the
tests. As you know grade reports were passed out last Thursday. For some, the grade may have been a clear difference from the one sent home
for you child's 1st Quarter Progress Report (From the School). The grades may be dramatically different because the one sent home last week,
included our first "Test Grade." The one sent home by the school did not, and was representative of grades over three to four weeks ago. As
you can see our grade is dynamic and changes quickly. Additionally, the "Test" grade represents 50% of your child's grade. If a student does not
do well on a test, the whole grade is affected. However, as I indicated, most students passed the "retake". There grades have improved. Test
taking is difficult and is itself a skill. Throughout the year, I will help your child to learn the material well so that they can not only learn all of
the information but also to become good "test takers", representing what they really know. If you have any questions regarding your child's
grade, at any time, please email me or call me.

If you did not receive a grade report, please ask your child for it. The report needs to be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Our 1st Quarter Benchmark will be administered next week Thursday and Friday, 23rd and 24th of October. It is a Districtwide Benchmark being
administered at all district junior high schools. Benchmarks will also be administered in other core classes. Please check with your child to see
if he or she knows when the other benchmarks are being administered. The Benchmark will be a cumulative test covering Chapters 1 and 2.
Practice problems can be found at the Holt website, my.hrw.com. Students may also use their notes and previous tests to prepare for the exam.

Please remind your child that I want to help them during lunch Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and after-school on Fridays. They can eat
lunch in my room and I can help them complete their homework, learn the new concepts, etc.

Have a great October,
Marisa Parker
