Hi, my name is Ms. Parker and I have been teaching both Math and Social Studies at Santa Barbara
Junior High School since 1994. Some of my former students are now older than I was when I started
teaching (24) Time goes by "way too quickly." A graduate of Laguna Beach High School, I went on to
earn a BA in History from UC Santa Barbara in 1992. I later attended Humboldt State University in
1993 and earned a Multiple-Subjects Teaching Credential. I have a supplemental credential to teach
Mathematics as a Single-Subject as well.
This past summer I went on some exciting adventures. I started out my break by traveling to
Chicago for the very first time, what a vibrant and fun city. The architecture was amazing and the
people were friendly and active. My husband and I spent the majority of our time enjoying the local
classical, rock, and acoustic music at Millenium Park and at nearby Ravinia (kind of like our own
Santa Barbara Bowl.) Later I traveled to San Diego to attend the AVID Summer Institute. I learned
and practiced new instructional strategies that I am eager to use this year.
Lastly, two weeks before school started, I attended a district-wide HOLT (our book's publisher)
textbook conference. The conference was a success as well. Not only was I given a chance to
collaborate with fellow teachers from SBJHS, Goleta Valley, and La Colina, I was able to plan and
prepare/pace this year's course curriculum. My experiences both recreational and professional
helped me to be very appreciative of the time that I had off this past summer. I am excited to share
my experiences and new knowledge with my students, parents, guardians, and staff. I look forward
to a wonderful school year!!!!!

Practically-Students will come to learn that Math is an enjoyable subject and is used in our everyday
lives.
Civically-Students will respect themselves and respect others. They will challenge themselves to
realize that they can achieve anything.
MATH IS FUN!
We are going to have a great year!
