Is there homework in English class every night?

Yes and no. Any assignment not completed at
school becomes homework. If all assignments
have been completed, there is always the
indepedent reading.

Should a parent be concerned about too much or too little homework?

Homework should not be busy work.
Homework should extend or prepare for the
learning going on in the classroom--that's my take anyway.
I don't want homework to become a battleground
between parents and their kids.
Life is too short.
I try to balance out the homework--some projects
take longer and shouldn't be left to the last minute.
Other daily tasks are important for establishing a routine. Please let me know if you
have any questions about the total amount of homework.

What is an appropriate book for independent reading?

A novel that can be read independently--
that is, one that contains vocabulary that won't
prevent the reader's understanding.
We have various lists at school to help guide
students with their choices.
