About the Teacher

Dear Third Grade Families,

Happy New School Year! My name is Mrs. Brown and I am honored to be your child's third grade teacher. This is my second year teaching at Santa Rosa Academy; however I have been a parent here for some time. Here is some background information about myself. I have lived in California since 1997 with my wonderful husband and three children. I am originally from Alexandria, Virginia where I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. For over 10 years, I have shared my love of teaching with my own children through homeschooling, while also privately teaching other kids in the community. Since 2008, my children have been students here at Santa Rosa allowing time for me to earn a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Recently, I also earned a Masters Degree in Cross-Cultural Education at National University. My overall goal this year is to provide an educational experience that will have a positive impact on your child's academic future for years to come.

This year will be an awesome learning adventure for your third grader. In Science, we are going to explore, matter, animal habitations, and the solar system. We are also going to investigate energy, electricity, and participate in some really fun experiments. In Math, we will be masters of multiplication by the end of the school year. Number sense, fractions, problem solving, geometry are other concepts will be developed. In Social Studies we will focus on California Native Americans, citizenship, and the economy. Language Arts will expose your child to many interesting stories as comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary skills are expanded. Fabulous writing projects will certainly be on display. Lastly, character education and patriotism will be strongly emphasized.

Well what are we waiting for? Let's get started on our magnificent journey into third grade! I look forward to partnering with your family in making this year a success.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Brown
