Pre-Algebra Class Overview 2009 – 2010
Mrs. Trujillo email: trujdebbie @aol.com
Purpose:
The purpose of this class is to give students a firm understanding of the
basic math skills that are needed to successfully complete algebra and the
high school exit exam. Since algebra is a requirement for high school
graduation, this is an important preparation for that class.

Grading Scale: Percentage of Grade Letter Grade
	Notebook Check 5% A
	100% - 90%
	In Class Assignments 10% B
	89% - 80%
	Homework Assignments 15% C
	79% - 70%
	Quizzes 20% D
	69% - 60%
	Tests 50% F
	59% - 0%

Notebook Check:
Organizational skills will be stressed in order to prepare for a high school
level class next year. All notes and handouts are to be kept in a three
ringed binder. All work will be collected at the end of the chapter and be
evaluated for organization, neatness and completeness. This will count for
5% of the overall grade. Chapter work will be saved in a student portfolio
to be used for Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences and then handed back at the
end of each trimester.

In Class assignments:
Practice work done in class will be collected at the end of class and will
count for 10% of the overall grade. In class assignments must be made up in
event of an absence from class.

Homework:
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and collected on the following
day. Study Hall time will be used as a help session for homework. Daily
class time will be used to correct homework and answer questions. Homework
grades are based on effort so it is best to try all problems. Homework is
worth 15% of the overall grade.
	Use pencil on homework.
Use correct heading (name, date, page, numbers).
	Attempt every problem.
	Correct in red pen only.
Turn in homework on time. Points will be deducted for late work.
Late work will not be accepted after the chapter test has been taken.
Quizzes:
Short quizzes will be given often and are worth 20% of the overall
grade.
Tests:
Tests are given at the mid-point in the chapter and at the end of the
chapter. Mid-chapter tests are worth 50 points and Chapter tests are worth
100 points. Tests are worth 50% of the overall grade.
Calculators:
Calculators are required for this class. Proficient use of
calculators will be stressed. A simple, inexpensive scientific calculator is
sufficient. Calculators need to have a square root function on them (√). It
is best if calculators DO NOT have a fraction key or a percent key.
