8th grade social studies covers U.S. History. The topics covered include:
Native American Tribes, Colonial Times, U.S. Revolutionary War, The U.S.
Constitution and Citizenship, The Expanding Nation, The Nation Moves West,
The Civil War, Reconstruction Period, Industrialization and Immigration, The
Gilded Age, WW l, The Roaring 20's, The Great Depression, and WW ll. In this
class students will be taking part in interactive activities, group projects,
debates, research projects and guest speakers. There is also a large variety
of excellent videos that will be shown periodically.
Homework will be given at each class. There are several quizzes and a
chapter test for each topic covered. Homework assignments can
be found on myGgradebook.com. The class code is SYVCS-Trujillo-SS8. Please
check this site frequently to stay up to date with assignments and grades.
Every Friday is Constitution Day. Students will be given a one page handout
on Friday in class that we will read and discuss. The next Friday there will
be a quiz on that lesson and the next one page handout will be read and
discussed. Students are required to keep a notebook with all handouts and
quizzes which will be graded at the end of all three trimesters. There will
be about 32 handouts and quizzes by the end of the school year.
The class times are: Tues & Thurs 9:35 - 11:15 and Fri 9:05 - 9:50.
