7th grade science covers life science. The topics covered include:
Using Light, Cytology (the study of cells), Genetics, Viruses & Bacteria,
Structure & Function of Vertebrates, Bones & Muscles, Circulation &
Respiration, The Nervous System, The Endocrine System, The Structure &
Function of Invertebrates, The Structure & Function of Plants. In this class
students will be taking part in group projects, partner projects and research
projects. A science fair project and presentation will be due at the end of
the second trimester. There is also a variety of excellent videos that
will be shown periodically.
Homework will be given at each class. There are severalquizzes and a chapter
test for each topic covered. Homework assignments can be found on
myGgradebook.com. The class code is SYVCS-Trujillo-Sci7. Please
check this site frequently to stay up to date with assignments and grades.
The class times are: Mon & Wed 9:35 - 11:15 and Fri 11:20 - 12:05.

Purpose:
The purpose of this class is to give students an overview of the life
sciences. Some of the topics to be covered this year are:

3. Cell Structure & Function 11. Structure & Function of
Invertebrates
4. Cell Process & Energy 12. Structure & Function of
Vertebrates
5. Genetics: The Science of Heredity 13. Bones & Muscles
6. Modern Genetics 14. Circulation & Respiration
7. Changes Over Time 15. The Nervous System
8. Earth’s History 16. The Endocrine System

Notebook Check:
Organizational skills will be stressed in order to prepare for high school.
All notes and handouts are to be kept in a three ringed binder. All work
will be collected at the end of the chapter and be evaluated for
organization, neatness and completeness. No late work will be accepted after
the chapter is completed. This will count for 5% of the overall grade.
Chapter work will be saved in a student portfolio to be used for Student–led
Conferences and handed back at the end of the trimester.
In Class assignments:
Practice work done in class will be collected at the end of class and will
count for 10% of the overall grade. In class assignments must be made up in
event of an absence from class.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned after every class and collected at the following
class meeting.
Late homework will be marked down. Homework is worth 15% of the overall
grade.
Quizzes:
Short quizzes will be given often and are worth 20% of the overall
grade.
Test/Projects:
Tests and projects are worth 50% of the overall grade. Tests are given at the
end of each chapter. Chapter tests are worth 100 points. Projects may also
be used as an assessment of a chapter or in addition to a chapter test.
Projects may be 50 points or 100 points.
A Science Fair Project will be required of each student and will be due in
the spring. Assignments leading up to the Science Fair are required and will
receive credit. Class time will be given to learn how to do projects and to
explore topics of interest. The Science Fair may be worth more than one test
grade for that particular trimester so it is important to try your best.
