About The Teacher

This will be Mrs. Mayer's nineth year teaching at the Charter School. Mrs.
Mayer also taught for four years at the Santa Ynez College School. She has
taught 5th, 2nd, 4th and is now teaching 3rd grade which she loves.

Mrs. Mayer graduated from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo with
a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. She worked for six years as a
Dietician and Sous Chef at two Southern California Health Spas. In 1988 she
made the move to Los Olivos where she took the job as Executive Chef of The
Los Olivos Grand Hotel. After her two daughters entered school, Mrs. Mayer
decided to become a teacher. In 1995 she went back to Chapman University to
get her Teaching Credential. It was the best decision she could have ever
made.

Mrs. Mayer lives in Santa Maria with her husband Marlin, her 20 year old
daughter Susan and her 18 year old daughter Kelly recently moved to Solana
Beach to attend Mira Costa College together. Marlin works as a
finish carpenter.

Mrs. Mayer's favorite past times are to go to the beach and surf, run, cook,
garden and watch her daughter Kelly play sports. She is also the Charter
school's volleyball and tennis coach. Mrs. Mayer loves to exercise and
feels better when she does.

Her favorite thing about teaching is when the kids make her laugh and the
funny things they say. She also loves it when her students show new found
knowledge. She loves to go on many field trips where she believes an
incredible amount of learning takes place. Mrs. Mayer enjoys doing
projects, drama plays and special learning days like the Chumash Powwow and
the Tropical Rain forest Buffet. She also enjoys cooking with her class in
our new kitchen which is tremendous fun and holds many rewards.
