About Your Teacher

Hello. Thank you for checking out my website. Here is a little bit
about me, your 8th grade core teacher this year. This is my fourth year at
South Valley. I have loved being on staff here and being a part of this
amazing school. I moved to Gilroy from San Diego where I taught both 4th and
6th grade. After living in San Diego for 10 years I was eager for a change
in scenery.
Some of the things I enjoy are reading, swimming, and playing
tennis. I play on a couple of USTA tennis teams here in Gilroy and am really
enjoying it. I also love watching movies and camping. One of my goals is to
camp in every National Park in the Western United States. In my own school
career I was very involved in athletics and here at South Valley I am very
involved in our Athletic Department. I coach Girls Basketball and Boys
Volleyball. Go Tigers!!
This year in Language Arts we will be focusing on reading and
writing. I look forward to getting to know you as readers and authors. We
will have many opportunities to celebrate our writers in H6. Another
exciting part of 8th grade is Social Studies. This year we will learn
American history from the time of Columbus through World War I. I’m sure
you will find it as fascinating as I do.
I have a heart for eighth graders. This is an amazing time in your
lives transitioning from middle school to high school and I am thrilled to
be a part of it. I look forward to a wonderful year and together we can help
make you successful and enjoy your last year here at South Valley.

Sincerely,
Ms. Bowlby

Mission For The Class

My mission is to have each child be successful and feel comfortable here at
South Valley. We will be reading and writing a lot this year. I will also
work hard to show them that Social Studies is a fun and intersting subject!
My goal is that they will leave in June enjoying school and feeling like
they've accomplished much this year!
