May News: Third Grade
5/29/08
Dear Parents:
Thanks so much for coming to our Open House this past week! It was great to see all of you! We
were so happy to hear how impressed you all were with your child’s work and progress. They have all
worked really hard!
The time has come now for us to begin end of the year assessments for report cards/grades. Please
try to make sure your child continues to work on any skills they still need to practice. Reading daily is
key and practicing times tables. We will be taking the District Multiplication Timed Test tomorrow
5/30. Also, soon, we will take the District list of 100 high frequency words. The students all took this
back in September and we reviewed it at our Fall conferences. A copy is attached here. They will be
spelling these words.
In addition, we will retake the Language Arts and Math comprehensive assessments so that we may
compare your child’s progress with the beginning of the year. Also, the students will retake the
Addition/Subtraction Timed tests from September as well. All testing will take place over the next 2
weeks. Please practice with your child so that they may do their best!
Soon we will also be wrapping up our Math chapter tests and Reading series. Watch for any practice
pages, study guides, or fluency practice sheets that come home. In addition, the students will be
continuing homework for a couple of more weeks, the last week(s) we will have no home work. RTI
groups end 6/6 as well. Please make sure your child is here at school and well rested. We know it gets
harder to stay on track when the sun is out and the days are longer, but we’re almost ready for
summer- it’s the home stretch!
On our last day of school, we have a barbeque in which the whole 3rd grade participates. We also
play a few baseball games amongst our “teams”. It is a fun day, but we do need some help. Please let
us know soon if you can help. We will need about 4 parents per class from 10:30-12:00 or so (on
6/18). Just write a note in the Binder Reminder. Thanks!
