Dear Parents and Students:
We are going to continue with our Excel graphing project with the favorite

of the application. This will involve learning new vocabulary and working on
activities lessons within the application. There will be a test on the
vocabulary. I have posted the Excel Study Sheet just click on the left side
bar that says "Excel Vocabualry Words" (If you no longer have the handout you
can print it yourself.)

The students setup the outline of what they need to research for their
PowerPoint in class today. We printed out the PPT slides as a handout so they
would have a structure for research on their character. Please use books and
websites I have provided to help you find information.
This is a reserach project and all work must be cited. Noodletools.com is
required for the Work sited Slide.

Keyboarding Homework All Year:
The fifth graders will be responsible for practicing their keyboarding 5 days
a week for 10 minutes a day. Practicing each day leads to better progress and
more improvement in the long run. There will be two UltraKey tests during the
second trimester for a grade.
Tips when practicing in UltraKey: Always go to complete the Lessons first and
then the Skill Checks. When your in the Skill Checks make sure you work
through 1paragraph, 2 paragraphs, 3 paragraphs and the Entire Passage. If you
are not doing well in skill check then go back and repeat the lesson. Your
goal is to not look down at your hands but to memorize the proper finger
positions. UltraKey shows you the fingers resting on the Home Row and then how
the fingers have to reach for the other keys. I gave you the handout with the
hands on it and it should be in your computer pocket folder. This paper is to
remain in your folder all year so you can always refer to it. Your computer
folder is required to be at all your computer class times.
Once a student reaches the grade level goal then a "New Personal Goal" will be
issued on that test. The new personal goal is to be reached to earn an "A",
this is to keep the students challenged and motivated to grow in their skills.
The new personal goals are increased by 3 more words per minute with keeping
high accuracy.

All of the returning 5th graders have www.noodletools.com accounts from last
year. I will setup new accounts for new students. This is a web based software
educational subscription program used by the school to teach students how to
record their Work Cited for research projects. They are learning how to use
the MLA (Modern Language Association) format which they will need for high
school. Please ask your student about their account and have them show you
what it does. I will be teaching them again how to cite a book, a website and
other resources at school to refresh their minds from last year. This will be
used again for projects throughout the year. Each student has their own login
and password and are linked to their teachers.
Thanks,
Mrs. Kahlweiss
