LOWER GRADES TECHNOLOGY

Grade 1

Students are learning to log in with their user names. Once the students are

able to log in, they learn how to use an age appropriate word processor.

They learn the "home row" for keyboarding, and proper hand position for

their little fingers. Performance indicators will require them to open an

existing file from their documents, begin a new document, save a document

into their folders, and where to navigate to print a file. Mrs. Kreider's

use of the class room projector has enabled the students to listen and learn

as a whole class. The classroom consists of 6 computers and are used as a

station. As of November 1st, all students should be able to log in and type

simple sentences on a word processing program. It's so delightful to see how

they adapt so well to technology!

Grade 2

These students are exposed to class room technology with the use of daily

instruction from the teacher on the new projector. The students also make

use of their class room computers to complete the assignments required. Mrs.

Burke's web-based lesson plans integrate class room curriculum with the

skills taught in the lab. Mrs. Burke helps the students in the lab to

complete assignments. This month, lesson plans include a social studies

lesson using the internet, word processing assignments that

will result in a prayer booklet and practicing their keyboarding skills. The

2nd graders say that Mrs. Burke LOVES! the new projector!

Grade 3

Students come into the lab for basic skills on keyboarding, word processing,

simple spreadsheet lessons. Students are accompanied by Mr. Kelley on

Wednesday's, while the remainder of the class is taught the application

programs by the Technology Coordinator. Students are learning how to

create "Power Point" presentations on Max Show. Students hope to present

these multi-media presentations in the classroom with the new projector.

Performance indicators include the above skills as 1st and 2nd graders, but

begin to increase speed and accuracy with keyboarding, integrating multi-

media with curriculum, ethical use of technology knowledge, and demonstrate

the ability for use of on-line technologies.

Grade 4

Students have reviewed basic Power Point features from last year as 3rd

graders. This year the students will continue to create presentations using

Max Show, which is the equivalent of Power Point in Microsoft Office. The

students will be able to present their slide shows in the classroom using

the new projector. Students will use a "formal" keyboard program for lower

grades and learn the entire keyboard this year. Proper fingering is

enforced, as is accuracy.

Grade 5

Mrs. Calton integrates and creates her classroom curriculum with technology throughout the school year. 5th graders are taught by their homeroom teacher in the computer lab. She has created a learning environment with technology in the classroom by direct modeling with the multi-media projector. This enables students as a whole, to understand the directions and learn objectives of the lesson. Mrs. Armstrong will provide instruction to the students using Office suite and other software programs. Students are taught computer skills as stated in the ISTE guidelines and benchmarks. Make sure to visit Mrs. Calton's webpage for more information on technology projects for the 5th grade.
