8th Grade Technology
2009-2010
Welcome 8th Grade Computer Students!
This year the students will review and learn a variety of basic skills, using
different methods. Students will review the Window's operating system,
Publisher, graphical software programs, spreadsheets, presentation programs,
as well as new web-based programs. Students have limited time for formal
keyboarding in the lab. Testing will take place throughout the year. Many of the projects require good
typing skills in order to complete on time.
This year the expectations for keyboarding skills are 25 words per minute.
Accurancy should fall into the 80th percentile, and hopefully at 100%.
Students are expected to know the entire keyboard, including symbols.
Students are required to practice typing at home twice a week. Formal
keyboarding programs can be accessed on the web for free. Or if a software
program is available on home computers, students choose a program that will
help them increase speed and accurancy.
8th grade students will create an ePortfolio using a wiki. Wiki's inspire
collaboration in a learning environment, allow students to add or make
changes to the site, learn from their peers, and some basic web design
elements.
I have enjoyed talking to many of you regarding your child's performance. I
appreciate your support and your visits to the lab. Anytime!
