All Things Are Possible Through Christ
November Newsletter
Dear Fifth Grade Parents:
"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into God's presence with singing!
Know that the Lord is God! It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations."

I give thanks to wonderful parents and exceptional students. I
appreciate your hard work, support and raising the best children ever. May
you and your families be blessed with abundance during this magical time of
year.
Thank-You, Thank-You
Please accept my sincere thanks to those parents that drove and chaperoned
our field trip to Lawrence Hall of Science. Thanks to Mrs. Gardner, Mrs.
Guerrette, Mrs. Pierce, Mr. Ottati, Mrs. Berdiago, Mr. Ottati, Mrs. Willis,
Mrs. Baxter, Mrs. Giuntoli, Mrs. Woerner and Mrs. O’Sullivan we couldn’t have
gone without you! Fun was had by all.
Reading Logs
Students will be bringing home their English composition books by weeks end.
Students will be required to read to you (or a sibling 18 years or older)
four nights out of the seven for 20 minutes at a time. Once the child has
read to you please have them record in their journals a short summary (2-3
sentences) of what they read, along with the date. Please sign the entry
after you have read it. I will be looking for four dates, four entries and
four parent signatures. Students will turn in their journals each Monday for
me to go over. Once I have looked over them I will return them to your child
to begin reading for the next week. This will begin the week of November
10th.
It is proven that students that read each day for pleasure improve reading
comprehension. When a student comprehends (understands) what they read
grades across the curriculum will improve. Please let me know if you have
any questions.
A Word About Absent Work
Just a reminder, if a student is absent from school, work can be picked up at
the end of the day from the classroom. The students elbow buddy will record
all homework on a homework sheet. Absent students will complete all absent
work and return to the Absent/Missing box. All work needs to be returned in
the absent folder. Remember students have only the about of days absent to
complete absent work on top of daily homework.
Work Packets
Beginning next week, I have decided to send students work packets home each
Friday. Communication folders will continue to be sent home on Wednesday.
Please make sure to look through your child‘s work, sign the packet slip and
return the slip and folder on the following Monday.
Update on Sr. Anna Marie
Sister Anna Marie continues to have chemotherapy treatments. Due to low
white blood counts each week, treatment has been pushed out. The Fifth Grade
and my Sixth Grade Reading class created a prayer chain for her. She was
very grateful to have a beautiful and thoughtful reminder of how much she
means to us. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.
Hand Sanitizer Dispensers
Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed in each classroom. Students
have been encouraged to use them several times throughout the day. If your
child is not feeling well, please keep them home until they are feeling
better. Their rest and health is so important to successful education.
Advent Prayer Service
The Fifth Grade class will be presenting an Advent Prayer service on
Wednesday December 2nd, 2009 in the courtyard. Please join us.
End of the Trimester/Report Cards
Wednesday November 18th marks the end of the 1st Trimester. Report cards
will be coming home on Tuesday November 24, 2009. I am available upon
request if you would like to set up a conference to discuss any concerns
regarding the report cards. Please feel free to drop me an email to set up a
time to meet. pcalton@sfaconcord.org.
