What is Reading Revolution?
Reading Revolution is a whole body, multiintelligence
approach to
reading instruction that integrates sensory motor activity into
the reading
process. The reading lessons are engaging, physically active,
and fun!
Games are used to create a fun learning experience and thus a
stronger
retention of material. Beginning in Kindergarten, the children
are taught
that vowels are scoops of ice cream and consonants are cookies.
Therefore,
words are made up of ice cream sandwiches. Initially the 26
letters of the
alphabet are taught using "sound movements." Next, the
two letter "partner"
sounds are introduced. Partners are two letters that make one
sound like
ch, er, oa, and au. There are 35 partners to be learned.
Finally,
the "teams" are presented. Team sounds consist of
three to five letters
that combine to form one sound such as "cian" as in
"magician."
The method does not just focus on decoding, but is a
balanced reading
program covering all of the skills necessary for reading mastery
including
fluency and comprehension.
At home, how can I reinforce what my student is learning in school?
A series of tapes called "Fletcher's Place" teach the
basics of the program and are available to be checked out.
Please contact Mrs. T. for details. These tapes are also
available for sale. For more information visit
