HOMEWORK IN FIRST GRADE
First grade homework has 3 components:
1. Students have a daily homework assignment which is sent home in their
folder every day Monday through Thursday. Homework is not given on the
weekend or holidays.
2. Students have an assigned topic each week for "Sharing". They bring
something that fits the topic on their assigned sharing day.
3. Students should read (or be read to) every night for 15 minutes. A
reading log is due each Friday or the last day of the school week.
HOMEWORK SHEET:
A weekly Homework sheet is sent home each Monday.
Special announcements and reminders are mentioned in the "Notes" section. The
spelling words and the share topic can be found on the homework sheet.
READING LOG:
Remember to read for at least fifteen minutes each night. Fill in your
reading log with the book you read, and the number of minutes you read.
If your child did not bring home a reading log on Monday, they can always
get one on Tuesday. Reading logs are due on Friday. If you lose your reading
log, then write down what you read and record the minutes on another slip of
paper.
SHARE:
Students have an assigned topic each week for "Sharing". They bring
something that fits the topic on their assigned sharing day. The topic will
be on the homework sheet each week.
HOMEWORK FOLDER:
Students should bring their homework folder to and from school each day.
Please check the folder each night. Clean out any corrected work. Work that
is graded or has comments can be stored in a file folder for reference.
PLEASE do not leave graded work in the homework folder. This will help your
child keep their homework folder organized. Completed homework and any notes
to the teacher or paperwork for the office should be placed in the homework
folder. Remind your first grader to turn all of these in at the beginning of
the day. THANK YOU!
