Computer ClassesKindergarten and First Grade students have a varied curriculum. They are introduced to computer parts and their usage. Time is taken to learn how to log in, how to open and use applications, save projects and become comfortable using the mouse for drawing pictures. They use educational software that strengthens their class curriculum. Much of their computer classes comprise learning and using KidPix. The students are taken to specific internet sites for research and academic learning. Second and Third Grade students build on their previous classes. These grades are introduced to Touch Keyboarding. We use the software Type to Learn3. These students use KidPix to create a variety of projects assigned either by the classroom teacher or as a learning activity in the computer lab. The students are taken to specific internet sites for research and academic learning. Grades Five through Eight have a variety of yearly activities. Each class keyboards during every class. We use the software Type to Learn3 and students are expected to complete four lessons a quarter. Each class studies computer facts which can include definitions, base2, memory, hardware, kinds of software. Fourth Grade spends the year creating a Multimedia Presentation using HyperStudio. We research the subject using the internet, we compose paragraphs using our research, we learn how to put the stack together and work on presenting our information pleasantly for the reader. Grades Five through Eight study safe internet practices and create their own Internet Safety Rules. Each of these grades study the spreadsheet and create projects highlighting specific uses of the spreadsheet. Fifth Grade spends much of the year learning how to make a graph using a spreadsheet. We search the internet for state information and create a State Hyperstudio project in computer class. This is done at the time students are working on their State Report in the classroom. Sixth Grade spends computer time creating an iMovie following their Week at Science Camp. They create a HyperStudio Stack and include the Quicktime Movie in their stack. Seventh Grade spends time learning how to create a Database. They then enter their required library class books into the database. We then spend time sorting and finding information contained in the database. Eighth Grade spends time creating a Civil War Web Page. This is done at the time of their Civil War Project in their classroom. |
