Study Skills

To help you get off to a strong start this school year, here is a
list of the top ten study tips from some of the websites and other resources
we have found:

     1. Write down or discuss a homework plan or schedule that your family
can live with, then be consistent. Follow your plan every day!

     2. Study in the same place every day if possible.

     3. Study at the same time, or as close as you can. (Routines help
          everyone to get things done.)

     4. Use a homework box or organize a desk. Keep it stocked so
everything you will need is at your fingertips.

     5. Cut out or cut down all distractions.

     6. Do the most difficult homework first, when you are fresh.

     7. Review your agenda daily. This makes it easier to plan ahead for
          tests and projects, fewer surprises.

     8. Schedule your homework time to allow for a block of time for each
subject. That way you don't spend all your time on one or two,
getting none of the others done. Also, if your homework in any
subject is taking a very long time, you might talk to your teacher
          about extra help.

     9. Divide long term projects into daily and weekly blocks of work so
they are easier to accomplish by the due date.

    10. Avoid studying by cramming the night before a test. You get less
sleep and arrive for the test with your brain not working at its
best. Try flash cards in the car every morning, or having your
someone in your family quiz you for ten minutes after breakfast
          each morning.
