December 1, 2009 I hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable. Conferences provided a time for positive interactions between parents, students and teachers. We look forward to the celebration of Advent with hope in our hearts as we await Jesus’ birth. Our annual Christmas Adopt-A-Family and St. Vincent de Paul collection information is being distributed. Ask your children for the information they have received. Students in kindergarten through sixth grades sponsor a family with each student receiving the name and clothing sizes for their family member. Please purchase an item of clothing for your family member. Catholic Charities has informed us that the families look to us to provide clothing rather than toys. Our goal is that each member of the family receives three to four gifts. Seventh and eighth grade students and the staff participate in the St. Vincent de Paul toy drive sponsored by the parish. Please provide a $10.00 - $15.00 toy for those children. All donations need to be at school by December 14th for delivery. This year the need is even greater than in the past. Thank you for your support of this annual drive. We have made many families very happy over the years. Events for the month include Mass on December 8 at 8:00 AM. The Advent Program is December 11, at 7:00pm. All students are expected to participate and have been hard at work preparing for an evening that celebrates the Advent season and Christmas. The music teachers have worked diligently in anticipation of the event. The children look so grown up in their dressy clothes. Please follow the dress code information that will be coming home. This is often the time of year when new shoes are purchased as the old ones wear out. The dress code stipulates the type of shoes that are considered uniform. Plaid and other designs on shoes are not a part of the uniform. The colors for shoes include solid red, white, navy blue, black, brown, and black, navy, or brown/white saddle shoes. Solid gray shoes may be worn by the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to match their uniform. Pink is not listed as one of the school colors. I have also noted that the boys are tending to wear longer hair. Please refer to the section in the handbook that states boys’ hair is to be above the collar and out of the eyes. Thank you for your cooperation. After School Sports will begin to use the gym for basketball as well as the outside courts. The courts must be available at 3:00PM for practice and we will close the parking lot courts for pickup at 2:55PM. Please arrive by 2:50PM to collect your children so we can start practice on time. Have a prayerful Advent, a joyous Christmas and hopeful New Year. We cannot lose sight of the reason for this season and the mighty gift of love. We are truly blessed in our faith and our ability to share it with each other. May God bless you and your families this Christmas. Sincerely, Mrs. Santoni
