Dear Parents,
What a fantastic field trip we had to the UCSB Marine Biology Lab! Thank you to our wonderful
parents who drove. In our Tuesday folder we will have our second to last permission slip for our
field trip to Lotusland. It will be on Friday, June 8th and I have enough drivers. If you signed up, I will
contact you soon. We will also have lunch at Manning Park following the tour of Lotusland. Please
contact me if you would like to assist with this.
Our last field trip will be our end of the year party at the Santa Barbara Zoo on June 13th. We will be
getting a bus and going with the first grade. Permission slips will come out in June. If there are any
parents that would like to coordinate lunch and or games for the children, please let me know.
Our Hero/Heroine reports are due this Thursday. The report should follow the format the students
have learned this year. A plastic cover, a title page with a photo of their hero, as well as a
bibliography. I will be looking for Jackie Robinson’s nine values to live by incorporated in the report.
The diorama/poster and costume will be due on May 29th when presentations begin. Please help
your child practice reading their report out loud at home. They will be presenting to the class next
week.
Our May crowning will be held in the church on Wednesday, May 30th. Each child is asked to bring
flowers to the Kindergarten room in the morning. Garden flowers are just fine. The fourth grade will
be doing a special presentation this year to “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”. Please come if you are
available.
Parents, our statue of the Blessed Mother is being brought home nightly in the month of May. It must
be returned the next day. Unfortunately, we had a family that missed out on their turn because a
student did not return it the next day. A list went home, and it is also posted on the 4th grade door
as to when your family will have the statue and the CD so your family can say the rosary together.
Please check the list. If you do not wish to participate, please let me know so others can benefit.
Thank you.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me (email or note) if you have any questions. The homework is
posted on my web site.
Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.
God Bless,
Mrs. McClenathen

Dear Parents,
Today, we continue our school tradition of saying a decade of the Rosary each day after salutes
during the month of May. Please have your child bring in their special rosary to use. If they do not
have one, I will provide one for their use in the classroom. Enclosed in this e-mail (and posted on
our classroom door) is a schedule for taking home the blessed mother statue and CD of the rosary. I
encourage you to say the rosary with your family. Please return the Statue and CD the next day as
each child will only have one opportunity to use the statue and CD this month.
I want to remind our special Mothers that we will be having a Mother’s Day Tea in your honor.
Please RSVP if you have not already done so. The “Tea” will be held next Thursday, May 10th, at
1:15-2:30. The students have worked very hard and have many surprises. Please remember to send
in a 4x6 or 5x7 photo of yourself for our bulletin board. The students should bring their uniform to
change into after P.E. on that day.
The Jog a Thon is This Friday. Pledge sheets are due today. (Tuesday) If you did not turn it in, please
do so as soon as possible. You may get another pledge sheet on our school website. Please come
out and support our team in red! If your child turned in $50 in pledges they will be eligible for a
pizza lunch on jog a thon day.
We want to thank Mrs. Naour, who did a stupendous job creating our red t-shirts with the help of
Mrs. Esparza. We appreciate their efforts. Please send in $7.50 to cover the cost of the photo/t-shirt
if you have not already done so. The students will not only wear the t-shirts for the jog a thon, but
also our next two field trips to the UCSB Marine Biology Lab, and to Lotusland in June.
Speaking of our UCSB field trip, the date is May 18h. We will be leaving the school at 10:40 and
returning around 1:00. Permission slips are in today’s plastic folder. If you would like to drive for this
field trip, please check our list on the 4th grade door. Permission slips and money need to be
returned by Friday. Please do not combine
t-shirt money and field trip money.
Our final project, the Hero Report is fast approaching. This week I have asked students to be looking
for a biography that they would like to read and report on. I will give written instructions next
Tuesday, but I will be approving books this week. We went to the library today and many students
made their choice, either with a book from our school library or one from our classroom. Students
will dress up for the occasion as their hero. They are very excited about this! They will also create a
poster, or a diorama to show their hero’s life. I connect this project to Jackie Robinson’s nine values
to live by. You will hear more about this next week, and in the future.
Finally, parents I want to thank you for your support. I am enjoying this class so much. I appreciate
enthusiastic learners, and each and every one of your children has a love for learning. I am so
blessed! Please know that I am here for you to answer any of your questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Diane McClenathen
