Principal Kristi Hickman	Message from the Principal We hope the 2007-08 school year will be highly successful and enjoyable for everyone. I am happy to announce that Star View students continue to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals as measured by No Child Left Behind legislation and rank among the top 5% of effective schools in the state. In addition, Star View was recognized last year as a Title 1 school which provided $100,000 to supplement our instructional programs.. Thanks to PTO and state funding sources, all classrooms in grades 1-5, are equipped with "audio enhancement" an infrared system including 4 mounted speakers and student/teacher microphones that capture, sustain, and enhance the learning process. Star View is up-to-date in acoustical stereo! In addition, the multimedia SMART Board arrived in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Replacing the former white board this interactive technology has energized teacher lessons with animation, educational tools, internet capabilities, power point presentations, video streaming and all the “bells and whistles” of a new tech consuming generation. Teachers and students alike are discovering a fascinating new world of teaching and learning.

Goodbye and Good Luck After 21 years Mrs. Van Aken is retiring to be with her husband and family. Star View is thankful for her many years of service and love, to our students (as we are for all of our wonderful teachers!). All of our best wishes to you upon your retirement Mrs. Van Aken. We love you and we will miss you!

Final Thougts from PTO WOW! Carnival was a great way to end a fantastic year for Star View! It was exciting to bring back a tradition that showed the Star View spirit of community. A million thanks to the Carnival committee and especially Tracy Cabrera for taking on this project! Thanks also, to Yvette Ahlstrom and crew, for a very successful Silent Auction and all our parent volunteers. Thanks to all our Star View families for your support thoughout the year, You helped to provide our kids with some great and memorable experiences. Your support allowd PTO to pay for field trips to Centennial Farm, Aquarium of the Pacific, Pumkin Patch, The Honda Center, Performing Arts Center, Santa Ana Zoo, Mission San Juan Capistrano, Goldenwest College, Davy's Locker Whale Watching, L.A. Science Center and many more. You supported the "Art Masters" program focused on teaching our students about the life and works of master artists; Picaso, Van Gogh, Monet & Homer. There were assemblies of theater groups, authors, operas, and you helped provide much needed classroom supplies. PTO also provided funds for some technological upgrades this year. What a difference it made for our students and teachers! With the cuts in our budget for next year, we know we will be called on to work harder for our student's enhanced education. Next year we will start right off the bat with a Jog-a-thon, which will incorporate a fundraiser, with a fun filled, Star View spirit, and health education day. Thank-you again for supporting Star View PTO in enriching the educatonal experience for all of our children!

Join Us! We value your input for PTO sponsored events!! Volunteers are always needed in many different positions throughout the year. We are an open forum and welcome feedback regarding next years events. Please attend the PTO meeting in September where all fundraisers and other activities for the entire year will be scheduled.
