Miss Hagen moved to Encinitas, CA in the summer of 2007 with her 20 year old cat, Chloe. Prior to
her move she lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics
at Aquinas College. She spent her first 4 years of teaching in a public school where she coached middle
school track and field, as well as, taught 7th grade math. She then taught middle school math at St
Alphonsus School for 9 years. While living in MI she also officiated high school basketball and taught
yoga. It was her love of yoga that brought her Encinitas to study and teach at the Ashtanga Yoga Center
with Tim Miller. Miss Hagen loves to read, sing, and hang out at the beach when she is not teaching at
Stella Maris Academy.
The objective for every math student at Stella Maris Academy is to have a solid foundation of the
basic mathematical concepts preceding algebra. In addition to learning math, students will also learn
organizational skills, note taking techniques, and study strategies. In this way the student will leave
Stella Maris Academy knowing how to be a good math student who is capable of learning any new
concept taught in high school.
