HI! My name is Bethanny McGuire and I am so excited to be teaching another
year at Stella Maris Academy! I come from a long line of teachers (I'm the 4th
generation teacher in my family) and have known since I was in 6th grade that
I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I was born in Chicago, IL but have
lived in San Diego since I was five years old. I was raised in Rancho
Penasquitos and attended public schools in the Poway Unified School District
graduating from Mt. Carmel High School. After high school I attended Purdue
University and later California State University San Marcos where I received
my secondary credential.
I taught history at the high school level at Valley High School in Escondido,
as well as my alma mater, Mt. Carmel High School. I loved my experiences at
both schools but they don't even begin to compare to teaching at Stella Maris
Academy. I've had such a fantastic three years at SMA and I can't wait to
start this new school year!
Some additional facts:
My husband's name is Ryan and he is a mechanical engineer during the week and
an unsuccessful gopher exterminator on the weekends
My beautiful, angel is Zoey a two year old English Bulldog
I got married in Ireland (My whole family, including my in-laws are Irish)
I LOVE to travel...I'm currently planning a 30 day backpacking trip for the
summer of 2013
My favorite book is East of Eden by John Steinbeck
I think The Black Keys and The White Stripes are the best bands ever. period.
I LOVE my job because I get to laugh every day and drink all the free
chocolate milk I want!
My goals for the Stella Maris Middle School Language Arts program are to
continue to build on students' previously acquired vocabulary and grammar
skills, read an extensive variety of literature, and create a really strong
writing program. For more specific information pertaining to
