Solar Eclipse viewing update

Dear parents,

As you may have heard by now, Etiwanda School District has decided that in the interest of student safety, we will not be allowed to use the solar eclipse glasses. We of course, are all disappointed, but rest assured, I have a backup plan. With that said, Monday we are going to make a simple solar viewing system that relies on us having our backs to the sun.  We will be viewing the shadow that the eclipse will cast. In addition, we will also watch the live steam of the event from NASA.  Around the point of totality I will take a few students outside at a time, to use the viewing plates to see the shadow that it will cast. I will offer extra credit to students who make and bring to school a solar eclipse viewing box.  Directions on who to make one can be found using this link.  http://www.kbtx.com/content/news/DIY-Solar-Eclipse-Viewer-Project-440935493.html
