CA Common Core Standards

Beginning in 2014-2015, full implementation of the California Common Core Standards (CCCS) will begin. Etiwanda has been phasing in these new standards for the past year and will continue to acquaint students and parents with them this year. Below is a graphic that illustrates the shift from the 1997 standards to the Common Core Standards. The aim is to give our students the foundation and skills to be college/career ready. The simplified explanation is to "an inch wide and a mile deep" in the student's understanding and application of the concepts taught in school.

Below are some links to explain and provide examples of the rigor and relevance the CCCS.

This is especially for the parents of our students, it summarizes some of the key shifts from the 1997 State Standards to the Common Core State Standards:

In addition to these math and ELA standards, the Next Generation Science Standards were recently released and now go to the State Board of Education for action by November 2013.  These standards focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in applications of science concepts where students create, design, and model products to demonstrate scientific literacy.
As I learn more about these standards, I will forward the information along to your student and you.
